Although certain
specific features may differ from one country to another,
les petits frères des Pauvres is
essentially a volunteer-based organization backed up by a limited core staff.
A local Board of Directors administers operations and oversees policies.
National organizations are fully autonomous in their activities and responsible
for finding their own local funding.
These national organizations
are united
in the Fédération Internationale des petits frères
des Pauvres
(International
Federation of Little Brothers of the Poor),
whose
headquarters
are in Rolle,
Switzerland.

The purpose
of this Federation is to facilitate contacts between national organizations,
to assist newer organizations as they seek to become independent and to aid
in the creation of new 'petits frères'-organizations in other
countries.
The International
Federation is administered by an executive committee composed of a representative
from each member country; a biennial General Assembly, with delegations from
each country, deliberates on policy decisions.
The Fédération Internationale des petits frères
des Pauvres has been recognized as a non-governmental organization in
consultative status (category II) with
the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
